Linda Lyons, of Clifton Lyons Design, holds a BFA in Design and an MFA in Painting. A true artist by nature, Lyons’ earliest memories are of drawing as a youngster along the rocky coastline of Marblehead. She suggests, “An underlying theme throughout my life has been reinvention. I’m not afraid of change. I believe in order to be creative and maintain a high level of quality in your work, you must push through comfort zones and take risks, challenge yourself.” To create a distinctive space for each client, Lyons first assesses the play of natural light throughout the space, completing the design with carefully chosen objects d’art and abundant interior lighting to turn on the glow. . Mally’s fabric line has grown to over 95 fabric patterns, and 40 coordinating wallpapers. National Association of Women Artists Inc, MA Chapter (NAWAMA) – Lorrie Berry & Jennifer Costello

In 1889, Grace Fitz-Randolph, Edith Mitchill Prellwitz, Adele Frances Bedell, Anita C. Ashley, and Elizabeth S. Cheever were barred from full participation in the male-dominated National Academy of Design and the Society of American Artists,  so they founded the Women’s Art Club. In the 1930s they opened its Argent Galleries on 57th Street in New York City and through the year’s some of the world’s most prominent artists have been members. In 2013, the Massachusetts chapter of NAWA was formed which composed of area artists who have gone through the jury process and been invited to be members of the national organization. Like the national organization, our mission is to foster and to promote awareness of women in the visual arts through exhibitions of its members’ work, scholarships to talented women artists in need, lectures, and other educational programs.

I believe everybody, regardless of income, gender, or inherent sense of style, deserves a beautiful, comfortable home. This is not a privilege reserved for those who can spend hundreds of dollars on a single yard of fabric. I believe such a home is vital to one’s mental and physical health, and my clients have proven that theory. I believe that it’s better to have a home that accommodates your family, than a family that accommodates your home. Folks need less therapy that way. I believe that you should always start with what you own when redesigning a space, that any room is better with flowers, and that a can of paint can change everything. I believe in mixing styles and colors and textures in the same way that Tess’ southern femininity and Ted’s metropolitan sensibility blended to create a beautiful life. I’ve been writing about the intersection of great design and real life at The Mudroom since 2009. A few years after starting The Mudroom, I started to pay attention to the voices of family, friends, and — after selling a few houses really quickly thanks to successful staging — real estate agents telling me that I should start doing “the interior design thing” for real. I started working with clients in early 2013 and knew after my first design plan review that I had found my calling.
