This fun afternoon features a classic 6-chukker match, a half-time dog parade, and festive socializing. All event ticket sales proceeds benefit the Junior League of Boston’s community programs, advancing women and girls’ economic empowerment in the Greater Boston area.

Newport Polo FAQ

Q: What are the rules and customs of the sport of polo?
A: The Newport Polo Spectator Guide provides some history and clarifications to what’s happening on and off the field.

Q: What is the dress code?
A: Newport Polo explains, “attire at Newport Polo events is Newport Casual Chic. Ladies: a beautiful sundress or summer fashions, with wedges or flats, and a sun hat or fascinator. Stilettos will get stuck in the ground. Men, a collared shirt, paired with summer trousers, topsiders, and a trilby or Panama hat is always nice. Get your inspiration from our Style Album”

Do’s and Don’ts

DO bring a blanket or low chair for seating – high-backed chairs will block the view for others.

DON’T set up in front of the white line in the grass, which marks a safety zone from the sideboards of the pitch. Horses and mallets sometimes cross those boards, so this is crucial! For that matter, DO keep your eye on the ball during play.

DO bring a picnic and beverages of your choosing, but DON’T pack too much! Parking is usually a bit of a walk to the tent, and you’ll want to be able to carry everything in one trip. JL Boston will have some light snacks and beverages on-site, and food and drink are available for purchase at the polo grounds.

DO favor flats or wedges – the path into the polo grounds is gravel, and all other surfaces are grass, so narrow heels will add to the aeration of the lawn while you’re stomping divots during half-time.

DO Pack sunscreen and/or get a second wear of your Kentucky Derby hat!

DON’T let your dog off-leash, ever. (Pups love chasing ponies, making for a dramatic but dangerous scene.)

DO review polo rules of play (the Newport Polo Spectator Guide has a great overview) before arriving so you can follow the game!

Bidding is open from Tuesday, April 23 at 12:00 ET to Sunday, April 28 at 5:00 pm ET. All proceeds support the Junior League of Boston’s programs and operations. 

Winners will receive their items via email or U.S. mail. Items will be sent out on April 30, 2024. For large items (identified in the item description), the winner must pick up their items at the Junior League of Boston’s headquarters on Newbury St. JL Boston staff will contact winners to coordinate pick up and mailing.

All ticket proceeds from this event will go directly to supporting our Community Programs, which support the economic empowerment of women and girls in the Greater Boston area.

Happy Founder’s Day!

On October 25th the Junior League of Boston celebrates our Founder’s Day. It is an opportunity to celebrate our league, our history, and our impact in the Greater Boston Community. We also use this day to kick off a month of fundraising to support a community cause. We do this in the spirit of the first year of the then Sewing Circle League of Boston where members raised $1800, which would be $62,000 today, that was donated to various local charities. The above photo is a document from the archives describing this effort & achievement.

This year we will be raising funds to purchase and increase access to disposable menstrual products in schools, shelters, and prisons. As we learned at the Spring 2023 Solutions Summit, Massachusetts currently does not have any legislation that requires free period products in schools, correctional facilities, or shelters. As a result correctional facilities and shelters see an alarming high rate of preventable conditions like toxic shock syndrome. 

Our goal is to raise at least $15,000 and have 75% member participation from today, Founder’s Day through Giving Tuesday, November 28, 2023. Any money you raise will be credited to your C&T account. This is a great opportunity for a social media fundraiser! Be on the lookout for information in the Buzz and on the Calendar for how to set up a social media fundraiser. 

I am honored to celebrate 117 years of service with all of you! I thank you in advance for your support as we work to eliminate this injustice from our community.

Join the Junior League of Boston at the Newport International Polo Series’ 2023 All-Day Charity Benefit Match! Tailgating begins at 3:30 pm and the Polo match begins at 5 pm. Get your tickets today! 

All proceeds benefit the Junior League of Boston, and our mission to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.

We will be hosting a potluck-style tailgate. All are welcome to participate and cook up their famous tailgate favorites. The tailgate is BYOB, so please bring your drink of choice! As a BYOB event, please remember, whatever you bring in, you bring out. Please drive safe. Advance ticket purchase only — no tickets available at the match. 

What is Newport Polo’s All Charity Day Benefit Match?

The Newport International Polo Series 6th annual All Charity Day on Sunday, July 16th is a fun afternoon for the supporters of dozens of 501(c)3 organizations to enjoy exciting polo action and a convivial outdoor experience to benefit local civic and charitable organizations. The event allows local non-profits to participate in all of the typical polo match luxuries while also raising money for their causes and organizations.

Tickets will need to be presented at the gate for entry. Tickets can be presented on paper or on your phone. You will be unable to enter the event without presenting the ticket. Ticket sales end at noon on Friday, July 14. Ticket purchasers will receive their tickets via email.
