Zainab Sumu launched Primitive Modern in the Fall of 2015 with the aim of conveying indigenous tales from her native African background through textile designs. Originally hailing from Sierra Leone, Zainab studied in the UK, France and the US.
Zainab Sumu honors indigenous cultures and the re-telling of African stories and traditions via textiles, like her capsule collection of scarves inspired by artisanal dyeing techniques that have been used for centuries in parts of Northern and Western Africa.
