THE BALL OF THE CENTURY FUNDRAISING HIGHLIGHT OF YEAR

Over 600 Guests Celebrate 100 Years of Making Boston a Better Place for Women and Children

Boston, MA (June 1, 2007) – The Junior League of Boston (JLB) held the Ball of The Century, a gala celebration of JLB’s one hundred years of voluntarism in the Greater Boston community, on Friday, May 4, 2007. This enchanting event, held at the State Room, was one of Boston’s most glamorous spring events. Over 600 guests enjoyed the fabulous sounds of the band the Allnighters, raised thousands of dollars to support the JLB’s mission in both silent and live auctions, dined on delicious food, and took in the stunning city views.

“The Centennial Ball was one of the most successful fundraising events that they JLB has ever had.  Attendance was at a record high and we raised an extraordinary amount of money to support the work of the JLB,” said Elizabeth Tyminski, past JLB President and Chair of the JLB Centennial Ball. “It was an elegant event, celebrating both the wonderful work that the JLB has done over the past 100 years, and looking forward to the work that we will do in the next 100 years.”

The Ball took place on Friday May 4, 2007, at the State Room located at Sixty State Street in Boston. This 38-story venue offers spectacular views of Boston’s sky and coastlines. “This event was truly the pinnacle event of our Centennial year at the JLB,” said Kirby Lunger, current JLB President. “Since 1906 the Junior League of Boston has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of women and children in the greater Boston community.  We have also celebrated the accomplishments of our volunteers with elegant fundraising events and this year’s ball was no exception.”

Cocktails and dinner began at 7:00pm, and dessert and dancing commenced at 9:00pm. Attire was black tie optional. The evening included a silent auction, featuring with one-of-a-kind packages created exclusively for the Centennial Ball; including experiences such as a helicopter ride, an evening with a private chef and trips to luxurious vacation destinations. The evening also included a raffle for a $2,000 gift certificate to Longs Jewelers and a separate raffle for Red Sox tickets. The live auction alone, which included Patriots tickets, two trips to fabulous warm weather locations and dinner with a private chef, raised over $10,000.
