BOSTON, MA October 2013 – The Junior League of Boston Membership Council hosted a Community Bus Tour for JL Boston Provisional members on October 19, 2013.  Over 75 participants, including current President Tracey Manzi, President Elect Audra Dainora, and several past presidents and current members of the Board of Directors.

Departing from the Boston Public Library, buses visited three placement locations.  One of the first stops on the tour was Dress for Success, a Community partner whose mission is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire.

The buses also visited the West End House Boys and Girls Club in Allston and enjoyed a tour of their incredible facility where a volunteer member described the Learning Circles Program in which JL Boston participates.  Learning Circles is a program designed for pre-adolescent girls and is focused on promoting healthy emotional and physical wellness.  Through a combination of mentor relationships and curriculum, the girls are able to discuss issues relevant to their lives, recognize their own strengths, and develop their self-confidence.

Both buses then convened at the Boston Renaissance Charter School (BRCS) in Hyde Park, the hosts for the remainder of the tour.  The school educates children from Kindergarten to Grade 6, and provides an array of enrichment programs, including: music, dance, visual arts, mentoring and Mandarin.

Presentations were made to outline the other community placements offered by the Junior League of Boston.  The group heard from leaders of JLB Arts and Kids in the Kitchen (both offered at the Boston Renaissance Charter School itself), as well as from leaders of Done in a Day, Leader Within, Strong Women Strong Girls, JL Boston Events and Germaine Lawrence, an Arlington-based residential treatment center for girls ages 12-18.
