Letter from the President – January 1st, 2015 by: Lyn Huckabee

We are halfway through our 108th year at the Junior League of Boston and I am thrilled that we are heading toward a bright new future. This organization is special because members decide how they want to enact change and – working together – they have the power to make the difference.
I want to give people an easier way to be more autonomous, more competent, more generous, not to slot them into a scripted volunteer experience. I challenge you as members of the Junior League of Boston to figure out how we want our organization to matter – how to make the mission matter.

Introducing the JL Boston Run Club at Germaine Lawrence! by: Lyn Huckabee

For over 17 years, Junior League of Boston has partnered with the Germaine Lawrence residential program for teenage girls helping more than 400 girls in a one-on-one mentoring program. Youth Villages – Germaine Lawrence campus (YV-GL) is an 86-bed campus in Arlington, MA where girls ages 13-18 live, receive specialized treatment, and attend school. Before arriving at YV-GL, many of the girls ran away from home trying to escape traumatic home environments. During their stay at YV-GL, the girls do not spend time with many adults other than paid staff; JL Boston members provide positive female role models that might otherwise be absent from their lives.

Have Fun and Do Good With JL Boston! by: Lyn Huckabee

The JL Boston blog has showcased several of the community projects staffed by our members including a program that matches mentors with college women and one that provides professional attire to homeless women who are interviewing for jobs. We can’t do any of this valuable work without help from the greater Boston community.
